Burlington Lawn Bowling Club - Since 1971

Our Junior Program

In bowling, a “Junior” is anyone between the ages of 18 and 25. For junior bowlers between the ages of 18 and 25 there are national and international championships known as "Under 25 Championships" or also known as "World Junior Championships". Click here for more information on the Under 25s.

A “Minor” is a class of "junior" for anyone under 18 and is more commonly known as "18 and Under (Under 18s)" or "Juniors Under 18" as called in Ontario. Bowlers aged under 18 can compete in the Ontario Junior Championships. See OLBA's "Junior" page for qualification dates for competition.

Meantime, a "Novice" is a bowler with five years or less of lawn bowling memberships anywhere in the world, regardless of age.

April 1, 2019 Progress Report (submitted by Mary Wesko, co-ordinator Burlington Junior Program):

We are excited about our 2019 Junior Season. During July and August we will meet on the greens for an hour of creative instruction, complete with a healthy snack and games to keep the fun in learning. The program has 11 coaches standing by, every Wednesday evening at 6:00 to 7:00, to offer advice and instruction. Care givers are required to stay with kids 12 and under.

Junior members range from 7 years right up to 21. The cost of junior membership is a mere $35 with all the equipment provided. (With no extra charge, teens are encouraged to begin lessons June through September and to take advantage of extra training with our Director of Coaching’s adult session which go Wednesdays 7:15to 9 p.m.) Call Mary 905-315-7837 for more on this.

With some training, all Juniors, may come out any afternoon to join in ‘open bowling’ games or, when deemed advanced enough, compete in club tournaments linked to an adult bowler.

Our annual Open House Week takes place on May 4th through 10th every day at 1 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents and juniors to visit our club which is the home of one of the best natural playing fields in Canada and an opportunity to have any questions about our Junior Program answered. Come and try the game, for free!

Anyone can bowl. All you need is a pair of flat-soled shoes to protect our greens, a hat to shield the sun and comfortable clothing. Bowls are available from the club. Later you may wish to buy your own bowls but don’t do that until you are sure of the size that suits you.

Over the years, Burlington LBC has hosted numerous Junior Events including provincial championships, training camps and international competitions. A number of Burlington Lawn Bowling Club’s past teen athletes have gone on to win Provincial and National Championships, and today represent Canada on the international stage.
