Our Junior Program
In bowling, a “Junior” is anyone between the ages of 18 and 25. For junior bowlers between the ages of 18 and 25 there are national and international championships known as "Under 25 Championships" or also known as "World Junior Championships". Click here for more information on the Under 25s.
A “Minor” is a class of "junior" for anyone under 18 and is more commonly known as "18 and Under (Under 18s)" or "Juniors Under 18" as called in Ontario. Bowlers aged under 18 can compete in the Ontario Junior Championships. See OLBA's "Junior" page for qualification dates for competition.
Meantime, a "Novice" is a bowler with five years or less of lawn bowling memberships anywhere in the world, regardless of age.
May 10, 2018 Progress Report (submitted by Mary Wesko, co-ordinator Junior Program):
For this year, our Junior Program will run every Monday & Wednesday from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. starting in mid June to August 29. During these sessions the new juniors will receive Instruction & Special Coaching.
During Open House Week many Juniors (7 years to 21) and families came out to try lawn bowling and they are advised to register before June 1, 2018. Call 905-336-0504 to join this program.
Registration is $35 and bowls rental is $25 for the season.
The Junior program will kick off with a Welcome Hot Dog Social, Monday June 11 at 5 p.m. and then it's onto the greens for some lawn bowling fun and instruction. Families are welcome to join in. Care givers are required to stay with kids 12 years old and under.
Anyone can bowl. All you need is a pair of flat-soled shoes to protect our greens, a hat to shield the sun and comfortable clothing. Bowls are available from the club. Later you may wish to buy your own bowls but don’t do that until you are sure of the size that suits you.
We have a selection of lawn bowling videos dedicated to various junior and youth programs conducted across Canada. You'll find them motivational, instructional and informative:
