BLBC Greens Restoration Program, 2015-16

Update on the Greens Restoration, October 2015

OCT. 14: Shortly after the club closed it's doors on the Thanksgiving weekend, work commenced on the restoration of the greens in preparation for the 2016 season. Under the supervision of the new BLBC greens director Charlie Roach, a working team of club volunteers was created and they have already begun the heavy lifting pieces, including verticutting, aeration, and top dressing on both the Burlington greens.

In addition, a parallel work stream commenced on repairing the bald, sandy patches and areas of algae that were visible on the greens. These areas have now been treated and the greens are ready for the next process.
Full seeding will take place as soon as the current windy conditions drop. Thereafter ongoing vigilance will continue through the fall with proper fertilization applied before winter. The type of fertilization to be used will be determined once the core soil samples taken recently have been analyzed and the report received by the club.

The restoration plan incorporates a strategy to bring both Burlington greens back to full playable condition in 2016. Please email Bruce Smith  or call him at 905-635-4384 if you want to join the new greens team.

History: Construction of BLBC was started in November 1969 and the greens were officially opened on June 5, 1971, by Mayor George Harrington, in the presence of a large turnout of members, friends and bowling officials from adjoining districts and from the Provincial Association. Membership in that first season (1971) was in excess of 200, almost evenly divided between men and women. Now, with the restoration process, we will soon return our greens to their former glory!
